Solo Leveling, also known by the name Only I Level Up, is a South Korean web novel written by Chugong. A webtoon adaptation of Solo Leveling, illustrated by Jang Sung-Rak was first published as a serial in KakaoPage on March 4, 2018. Its first season ended on March 19, 2020, and its second season began on August 1, 2020, that concluded in December 2021. It was officially confirmed that its anime version, under the production of A-1 Pictures, is all set to release worldwide in 2023.

What will the storyline of Solo Leveling be about?

The storyline of Solo Leveling revolves around a character who starts from the very bottom and climbs his way to the top. As per the plot of the manga, Sung Jinwoo is a weak player who lives in a world where humans with magical abilities, known as hunters, fight monsters and conquer dungeons to protect mankind as they know it. If the hunting party clears out the gate’s dungeon, their rewards can be used as money in the real world. Despite such a bad reputation of being the weakest hunter, he still participates in dungeon raids because he had to pay for his mother’s hospital bills. One day, after narrowly surviving the overwhelmingly powerful double dungeon that nearly wipes out his entire party, Jinwoo sacrifices himself to allow the rest of his party to escape. But then a mysterious program called the System chooses him as its sole player and in turn, gives him the extremely rare ability to level up in strength, possibly beyond any known limits. Jinwoo then sets out on a journey as he fights against all types of enemies, both humans as well as monsters, to discover the secrets of the dungeons and also the true source of his powers.

When will the anime be released?

An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s currently expected to be released in 2023. A teaser trailer of the anime was released by Crunchyroll at the Anime Expo, which showed a brief glimpse of the adaptation. The anime will be produced by A1 Pictures and directed by Shunsuke Nakashige. The scripts will be written by Noboru Kimura while the characters will be designed by Tomoko Sudo and Hiroyuki Sawano will compose the music. The voice cast hasn’t been announced yet.
