A New Take on a Classic Character
The new Ultimate Universe has been playing it a bit fast and loose with their reintroductions of existing characters. It’s hard to say if the Scarlet Witch we see in the previews will actually end up being Wanda Maximoff. It’s not even entirely obvious if she’ll actually be a mutant this time around either.
A Familiar yet Uncertain Debut
The description for Ultimates (2024) #14 reveals that both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are going to be at odds with the Avengers, harkening back to their introduction during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, it’s unclear how their story might unfold, and the possibilities of her character development are endless.
The MCU Connection

Quicksilver’s Fate
Another day, another thing I didn’t know about Skyrim. I could start a book at this rate. To be fair, I’ve only played it once, I really should go back for another playthrough.
Well, today’s Skyrim adventure ends rather abruptly, before this player even left Helgen, in fact. I wonder what the record number of playthroughs of Skyrim is It turns out you can die in the tutorial, which is a horrible way for your journey to end.
This was brought to our attention on Reddit, when RealPokeMikey reported, “So, I just started my 17th playthrough, and thought it would be fun to just not follow Hadvar or Ralof, and Alduin just bit me to death. Fun.” Not an ideal start. Though at least they tried something new. 17th playthrough, by the way, that’s some achievement. I’d love to know what that is in hours played.
The Avengers’ New Foes
This sparked several players telling their own versions of this story with NoTheOtherAC saying, “My first playthrough was even worse. I missed the jump from the tower, landed in a fire, and burned to death before I could figure out how to jump out of it.”
This being a Bethesda game, sometimes other things get in the way and one Redditor tells the story, “And you can actually die in chopping block too. Couple times, Alduin never spawned.”
I love the innocence in this anecdote from Highwayman42069 who describes, “My coworker couldn’t get past the tutorial a few years ago. Apparently she didn’t realize she was supposed to run away and not fight Alduin.”

Dragonborn’s Early Demise
Alduin realizing he killed the Dragonborn: “…wait, what? No way. Well, my job just got easier.”
The Mystery of Dragon Reproduction
Have you ever been halfway through a playthrough of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and thought, “Hey, how come all the dragons are dudes?” Yeah, me neither, but someone has… and it turns out Bethesda actually explained why this is the case in-game.
Over on the r/skyrim subreddit, one user had a very simple question: “Why there aren’t any female dragons in Skyrim?”
“So from game dev standpoint it makes sense. It’s at least one more VA, double the lines to record, etc,” wrote user nothinkybrainhurty. “But from the lore perspective, is there a reason? Are dragons just a single gender species? How do they reproduce? Do female dragons just have the same voice as male, sort of ‘dwarven women also have beards situation?'”
Well, as several users in the thread pointed out, there is a reason, and it’s hidden in a book that you can find inside the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood.
When will The Elder Scrolls VI finally be re-revealed? The book, titled “There Be Dragons,” explains that dragons are “eternal, immortal, unchanging, and unyielding” and that “they are not born or hatched”.
“They do not mate or breed,” states the book. “There are no known examples of dragon eggs or dragonlings. The Iliac Bay area has stories of such things, but so far all have proven false. The eggs turned out to be eggs of other reptiles. The small dragons were merely oversized lizards and no relation to true dragons.”
So, there you have it. Dragons are neither male nor female. Due to the fact that they don’t reproduce, they’re actually genderless. I suppose in a sense, that kind of makes them like the Asari in Mass Effect. Although they’re all voiced by one gender in real life, that doesn’t detract from the fact that they’re still a genderless species.
