However, with Eid just around the corner – and festivals being an important part of many cultures across Asia – people are crowding into markets for their last-minute shopping before they close up shop for another year.
Eid is one of the biggest religious holidays in India, and it is typically celebrated by Muslims. The day marks the end of Ramadan, so many people go out to do their Eid Shopping. Lockdown in India:
The streets of Hyderabad were deserted on Tuesday, as the city was put under indefinite curfew in anticipation of law-and-order problems following Eid. But people still thronged to the historic Charminar for shopping amid tight security.
“We are going to shop for Eid and not get involved in any trouble. It is the responsibility of the police,” said 45-year-old shoe seller Abdul Baba, who had come from a village near Sangareddy district.

Indian Muslim Leaders said for Eid prayer at home:
Indian Muslim leaders said to do eid prayers at home at this eid because of coronavirus.
Asaduddin Owaisi, Hyderabad MP and leader of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), urged Muslims in Telangana to offer Eid Al Fitr prayers at home today. The decision was made as a result of a statewide lockdown that has closed all places of worship for five days starting Wednesday morning. “Muslim leaders on Wednesday appealed to their community in Telangana state,” said Mr. Owaisi during an online webinar with other religious representatives from different Muslim sects who were also invited by MIM, “to offer ‘Namaz e Eid’ [Eid prayer] at homes.”
“The government order for closure is not only applicable just outside mosques but within them too,”
“Three to four persons will offer prayers in mosques because we can’t leave mosques deserted but all others should pray at home,” Owaisi said. He called for strictly observing all Covid guidelines like wearing masks and maintaining social distance.
Eid Al Fitr is being celebrated with solemnity amid the raging pandemic in Kashmir on Thursday.
Muslim leaders in Telangana have appealed to their community members to offer Eid Al Fitr prayers at home. This decision was taken during a webinar and has been said by Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. In view of the statewide lockdown that is currently underway as well as the government order for closure of all places of worship, Muslim communities are encouraged not to go out on Thursday morning but instead pray inside their homes with family or friends.
