Sarah Jessica Parker’s 23-year marriage with Matthew Broderick is, allegedly, on the rocks due to her smoking habit. Rumors have it the couple is at the “breaking point” of their romance over the said issue. So, is there any truth about it?
In the iconic hit HBO series Sex and the City, SJP’s infamous character, Carrie Bradshaw, was a chain smoker. This habit, reportedly, caused a huge conflict with some of her male counterparts on the show.
The two were, reportedly, “on shaky ground,” as Parker refused to stop her smoking habit. Indeed, things were going well between them.
The Truth About Their Marriage
SJP has never pretended that maintaining the relationship is easy. Matthew Broderick has been happily married for more than 20 years – which may come as a surprise to many, considering that long-standing romances are such a rarity in Hollywood.
“Anytime that any relationship is hard, it’s the point in which you’re deciding, is this worth the investment getting through whatever that thing is?” she said in a recent podcast episode of Girlboss Radio with Sophia Amoruso.
SJP added: “I know this sounds nuts, but we have lives that allow us to be away and come back together. His work life takes him here, and mine takes me there. In some ways, I think that that’s been enormously beneficial because we have so much to share in a way.”
SJP took to Instagram on Wednesday 15 May to share an email from the National Enquirer requesting comment on the state of her marriage.Why?
because they had an alleged eyewitness account claiming Parker and Broderick got into a “screaming match… just days before their 22nd wedding anniversary.”

“The sad thing is, things have been going well for them, but as their kids get older, it’s more important to set a good example,” notes the magazine’s insider. The story goes on to point out that Parker at one point quit smoking when she was pregnant with her first son, James, but “friends” say the Divorce star still has one “now and then.”“Matthew knows, you can smell it on her,” adds the source. The outlet even uses a picture of Broderick and Parker at the beach “looking distant” as proof of their marital woes. The unnamed tipster further states Broderick “really wants them to make it, so he’s hoping an ultimatum might finally be the motivation Sarah needs to quit for good.”
