Governor Gavin Newsom (D) announced a new lottery called Vax for the Win, where $116.5 million worth of incentives will be available in prizes that are defined by how many vaccines you’ve had–$100 million dollars’ worth as prepaid or grocery cards and an additional 16.5 million set aside to give out cash prizes to people who have all their shots already!
California has taken steps towards incentivizing vaccinations with Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement on Thursday saying “Vax for the Win” is open now AND IT HAS A TON OF PRIZES TO GIVE OUT!!!
Releasing a statement on the scheme, Newsom said: “Getting every eligible Californian vaccinated is how we bring our state roaring back from this pandemic.” He added that his administration would do everything it takes to make sure Californians are vaccinated by June 15.
“Some Californians weren’t ready to get their COVID-19 vaccine on day one, and that’s okay,” Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, the California Department of Public Health director, added. “This program is designed to encourage those who need extra support to get vaccinated and help keep California safe.”
The latest California Department of Public Health data shows that 17 million residents are fully vaccinated and 36.9 million doses of COVID vaccines have been used overall! All Californians, ages 12+, will be eligible for the cash prize draws taking place in June with 30 winners getting $50,000 on Fridays (June 4th and 11th).
The California Lottery starts on June 15th with the potential to earn $15 million in cash prizes. You must be 18 or older and finish your vaccinations if you want to claim any winnings, but under-18s can have their prize funds put into a savings account so they don’t miss out this time around!

How to get free $ by sign up for the California vaccine lottery:
If you have already been vaccinated, or have received at least one shot, and live in California, you can sign up for the $1.5 million and $50,000 cash prize draws on the Vax for the Win website.
You will have to complete a COVID-19 vaccine course if you are a Californian who was vaccinated on Thursday or plans to book the vaccination. If so, then be aware that you would qualify for $50 virtual card of grocery gift cards if within 2 million people start and finish their shots between now and May 27th. All entrants must be aged 12 years old or older in order to participate as prizes can only go out via text message notification (or email) 10 days after your last shot is administered during this time frame.
