Dragon Ball series is widely one of the most popular animes of all time, with the creators of Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach calling the series as an inspiration for their own. And the main character Son Goku, born Kakarot, has been famed in the popular culture through videos, memes, songs, and other anime references, with fans jumping in with their favorite line, “Yeah he is strong, but can he beat Goku?”
That’s the effect this anime had and believe it or not, the anime began on 26th February 1986. Quite a while? Of course! It has been 35 years and this anime is still valid and a topic of conversation. The animation wasn’t the best, but people regard it as a memory of their childhood and that is why this anime is still up there, in the sky.

But that is not what this article is about. It’s about the popular meme culture line, “Can he beat Goku?” Goku is regarded as one of, if not the strongest character. So here we are counting down our picks for all the times Goku died.

Canon/Official Deaths

So in this verse, Goku fought with Raditz, and let’s just say it wasn’t the most family-friendly fight.
They fought to the death and it threatened the planet’s safety, so Piccolo shot his Special Cannon Beam with Goku being the collateral fatality.
But heroes never die and so…
Cell’s Self-destructing…
The powers that every anime has, such as Naruto has tailed-beasts, Black Clover has the power of devils and devil magic, Dragon Ball series has, you guessed it, Dragon Balls, some orb-like objects which can summon Shenron, a snake-like dragon who can grant the summoner’s greatest desire. And so, the gang or Goku’s friends wished for his revival and so our hero was back.
Then came Cell, another villain too powerful for Goku to beat alone. That was until Gohan, Goku’s elder hybrid (half earthling, half Saiyan) turned Super Saiyan. Truth be said, Goku wanted Gohan to beat him but when the fight got out of control, Goku had teleported Cell to King Kai’s planet. The cell then exploded and killed Goku, King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory.
Unofficial Deaths…?
How many times has Goku died officially? Twice. Unofficially? Infinite. Why you may ask? In Dragon Ball Z, it was established that there were infinite timelines, so Goku has died infinite times.

Trunk’s Goku’s death:
With time travel confirmed in the Future Trunks arc, we also know of another Goku.
In Future Trunk’s timeline, the Androids arrived and massacred all of the Z fighters apart from Trunks and Yajirobe.
But future Goku died long before that of a heart virus. Luckily future Trunks gave our Goku the medicine, so he didn’t suffer the same fate as his future counterpart.
Goku Black?!?
When Goku Black showed up on the scene during Dragon Ball Super, there was a massive amount of questions from fans as to who the hell he was. Turns out, Zamasu used the Super Dragon Balls to body swap with his universe’s Goku. He then went on to kill the mind of Goku in the Zamasu body.
However, the body wouldn’t die later when Zeno erased the universe from existence after fused Zamasu exploded into the sky.
Goku tries to kill…. Goku?
Hiring Hit the assassin to assassinate him, Goku finally gets the chance to test out Hit’s skills. Of course, Hit won’t stop until Goku is killed so Goku is, as expected before, killed. He anticipates this, though, and it’s not too long until he’s back to life in his form and the story goes on.
Goku and Vegeta Fights to death
Akira Toriyama, the author of the Dragon Ball series, notably penned the timeline for Dragon Ball Online, and it ended up featuring the fates of several characters. Most relevant to fans and the most viewed were the fates of Goku and Vegeta, Dragon Ball’s longtime rivals and current best of buddies. Recognizing their old age and the passing of their prime and knowing that what is next is unknown, Goku and Vegeta head out into outer space to settle the score one last time.
