About: Cop Craft
Cop Craft is a Japanese anime television series based on writer Shoji Gatoh and Range Murata’s light novel series with the same name.
The novel was first published by the Shogakukan publishing house on 18th November 2009 and almost nine years later on 29th December 2018, the series was announced to be adapted into an anime television show.
Shin Itagaki was the director of the anime’s initial season while studio house Millepensee was behind the series animation. Satoshi Fukao, Kazuhiro Kanemitsu, Hirofumi Ishii alongside Keisuke Satou served as the producers for Cop Craft.
Shoji Gatoh himself was the creator as well as the writer for the anime and the characters being designed by Hiromi Kimura. On the other hand, Taku Iwasaki was hired to be the series composer with the anime’s opening theme song performed by Masayoshi Ōishi and the ending theme song of Cop Craft being performed by Mayu Yoshioka.
The action-fantasy detective anime series received a mixed reception from both critics and viewers alike. While both the sections did agree on Cop Craft’s quite simple and linear storyline and acclaimed the anime television series for its incredible action instances.
However, the show received its share of criticism from the audience as well as the critics for the excessive use of CGI in the anime. The fans also claimed that the series art style also didn’t reach on par as compared to other anime series out there.
So it wasn’t much of a surprise when Cop Craft ended up with a pretty average rating on MyAnimeList with a score of 6.72. Cop Craft season 2: Release Date
Cop Craft released the pilot episode of their debut season on 9th July 2019 and after a good run of twelve episodes, the series concluded it on 1st October 2019. The first season of Cop Craft was broadcasted on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Wowow.
As many people are aware that Cop Craft follows the story of a light novel series with a similar title and that the LN has presently published only six volumes. The makers have used most of the plot of the LN in the twelve episodes of the anime television series.
Nevertheless, the anime did skip and rearrange a lot of source material from the LN. The anime not only skipped chapters but also entire volumes in their first season. The story of Cop Craft also raced a bit fast for one’s liking.
The anime series utilized one volume of LN per four episodes of the season. The synopsis of the first and second books of the LN was adopted to create the first six episodes of the first season.
But the second half of the anime series completely bypassed the third, fourth, and fifth volume of the series and directly leaped to the sixth book of Cop Craft.
The remaining six episodes of the season were entirely based on the sixth volume however had a different final scene than the light novel series. The animation studio of the series gave the show an original ending.
So if Millepensee Studio decides to make Cop Craft season 2 then it is likely that the production will use the 3 volumes that were left behind in the first installment. The three books have source material for the makers to develop a full-fledged Cop Craft season 2 with 12 episodes.
However, these are just assumptions and nothing could be said for sure as now since neither the makers nor the studio house has released a statement about the fate of Cop Craft season 2. But if the second installment does happen, then we cannot expect it anytime soon.
