Following the release of two successive seasons with positive reviews from the critics, Agent Carter Season 3 was unfortunately announced to be canceled by ABC on 12th May 2016. Why did it happen? Find it all here.
Agent Carter is an American television drama that has jointly been created by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Popular production houses such as ABC Studios, Marvel Television, and F&B Fazekas & Butters served as the studio house for the series while Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, along Chris Dingess served as the showrunners for Marvel's Agent Carter.
The series is based on Peggy Carter who is a character in Marvel Comic. Peggy made her first appearance in the initial comic book issue of Captain America which was published in 1941. On the other hand, Peggy was first presented to us in the Marvel when she featured in the 2011 movie, Captain America: The First Avenger which also starred Chris Evans as Steve Rodgers in the lead role. Peggy was also briefly seen in Marvel's One-Shot short movie about Agent Carter which was released in 2013.
Agent Carter takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and can be considered as an extension to the franchise's other movies as well as their television series.
The show falls under the genres of period drama, spy-fi, superhero as well as action and adventure.
Marvel's television series has released only two seasons as of now. ABC ordered eight episodes for the first season and they soon debuted with their pilot episode on 6th January 2015 and the season ran through 24th February 2015. The second installment of Agent Carter was aired nearly a year later on 19th January 2016 and concluded with their finale episode on 1st March 2016.
Both the seasons of Agent Carter received outstanding feedback from critics with much acclaim given to the female portrayal of action hero, Peggy Carter. Taking this into fact, the show earned quite good ratings on IMDB with their score being 7.9 out of 10. Agent Carter also has a decent scorecard of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Needless, the show wasn't successful to grab the attention of the audience since the series had a very low score in the viewership department.
Though Agent Carter received nothing but decent acclamations from the critics, it wasn't enough for ABC network to renew the series for a third installment considering its gradually decreasing viewership.
The first season of the series created quite a buzz among the fans as they wanted to know more about the kind-spirited SSR agent which could be one of the reasons why the debut season of Agent Carter was a hit among the fans. The first season of Agent Carter had managed to garner a whole lot of 7 million viewers to their screens. And thus due to its increasing fans the network and creators renewed the series for a second season.
However, unlike the first season of Agent Carter, the second installment didn't prove to be triumphant in gaining more views because, on the contrary, the viewership of the season took a sudden and major dive which resulted in the series earning only 2 million views by the time the finale episode of the drama was aired.
According to sources, Agent Carter Season 3 was in the early development stage but considering its low viewership it was canceled. The last episode of the second season also was unsatisfactory for the audience since it hinted at a potential Agent Carter Season 3.
But now with it being canceled, fans are curious to know what would have happened in Agent Carter Season 3. The fan's curiosity and their love for the series were probably among the explanations why they launched several petitions on several internet platforms for the revival of Agent Carter Season 3.
Despite their various attempts to make the creators reckon for a third season, fans' requests are being met with silence and no reactions from them. So the odds of Agent Carter Season 3 getting into production doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.
Currently, no official announcement has been made by officials of the network regarding the characters that will feature in Agent Carter Season 3. But there is a likely chance that the key cast members will continue to reprise their original role if Agent Carter Season 3 does happen in the possible future which will include:
The first season of Agent Carter takes place in New York city of 1946 and follows Peggy Carter as tries to balance her administrative work as an SSR agent while operating a secretive task handed to her by Howard Stark.
The second season begins with Carter moving to the city of Los Angeles when threats relating to the new Atomic Age start going around by the Secret Empire in the outcome of World War II. Along the way, Carter finds herself with new friends as settles into a new home and who knows maybe an unexpected romance.
Sadly, yes. ABC network has canceled the third installment of Agent Carter and it seems like they will continue to stick to their decision.
Agent Carter has released two seasons with the first season comprising of eight episodes while the second installment of the series consisted of ten episodes.
Both the seasons of Agent Carter can be streamed on the international streaming network Hotstar.
