The majority of Broadway companies have opted to stop checking ticket holders’ immunization status after April 30, but all will require audience members to wear masks inside theatres until at least May 31.

The adjustment was revealed on Friday by the Broadway League, a trade organization. The owners and operators of Broadway’s 41 theatres made the decision, which had initially chosen to demand vaccines and masks last summer before the city imposed its own requirements.

Since then, the theatre owners — six for-profit and four nonprofit organizations — have been revisiting the protocols on a regular basis.

They made the announcement after many governments and businesses around the country eased restrictions, but with cases on the rise in New York City and the virus prompting numerous Broadway plays to cancel performances in recent days, they made the decision.

“Since restarting performances last fall, over five million people have seen a Broadway play, and the safety and security of our cast, crew, and audience have been our top priority,” the Broadway League’s president, Charlotte St. Martin, said in a statement. “We intend to maintain that track record of safety for all by maintaining tight audience masking until at least the month of May.” Of course, we recommend that everyone get vaccinated.”

Until now, the theatres have worked together on the rules, claiming that having different standards could cause confusion among theatergoers. The vaccine mandate has been dropped by the largest commercial landlords on Broadway, while two nonprofits have stated they would keep it and another has said it is still deciding what to do.

The League did not specify which theatres would no longer require confirmation of vaccination, but the Shubert Organization, which owns 17 theatres, and the Nederlander Organization, which owns nine, both announced on Friday that they would no longer require proof of vaccination as of May 1.

On May 1, Disney Theatrical Productions, which owns the New Amsterdam Theater, and Circle in the Square, which owns Broadway’s sole round theatre, announced that they would no longer require proof of immunization.

Jujamcyn Theaters and the Ambassador Theater Group, two other commercial theatre companies on Broadway, did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

The Lincoln Center Theater, a nonprofit that operates the 1,080-seat Vivian Beaumont Theater on Broadway, said it will maintain its immunization mandate. The Roundabout Theater Company, a nonprofit with three Broadway theatres, said it would continue to require proof of vaccination for its production of “Birthday Candles,” which runs through May 29, but that commercial producers renting its other theatres would be free to use whatever protocols they wanted.

The Manhattan Theater Club, another charity, said it would decide next week whether to keep the condition in place at the 650-seat Samuel J. Friedman Theater on Broadway.

Immunization and masking restrictions, which have long been abolished in many parts of the country, have been phased out in New York City; for example, on March 7, the city abolished rules requiring proof of vaccination for indoor dining at restaurants.

Other places, such as movie theatres and some comedy, sports, and concert venues, have chosen to do away with masking rules. Masks are still compulsory on subways, buses, and interior subway stations, but anecdotal information shows that compliance is declining.

The number of new cases of the virus has lately increased in New York City, but it is still far below the peak of the Omicron outbreak.

The policy modifications announced on Friday only affect patrons; Broadway actors and other theatre staff must still get vaccinated as a condition of employment.

The Last Sunrise on Mars: Nasa’s Insight Captured a Solitary Martian Sunrise

Earlier this week, the Mars lander InSight captured a bleak Martian sunrise. Since its arrival on Mars in 2018, the probe has shot thousands of photographs as well as gathered some fascinating scientific data on the planet’s geology.

InSight’s official Twitter account wrote, “I’ll never tire of sunrise on Mars.” “Each morning, that distant dot rises higher in the sky, giving me the energy to listen to the rumbles beneath my feet for another cycle.”

What is the significance of the Sun to InSight?

InSight’s day-to-day (or should I say sol-to-sol) operations rely heavily on sunlight. Two 7-foot-wide solar panels on the rover produce around 3,000 watt-hours per Martian day. InSight is so reliant on solar panels that it landed near the equator to get the most light.

Planetary research is fueled by all that sunshine. The acronym InSight stands for “Innards Exploration utilizing Seismic Investigations, Geodesy, and Heat Transport,” and it’s a collection of sensors designed to investigate the planet’s geologic past and interior.

First, InSight deployed a seismometer on Mars’ surface to detect any “marsquakes,” with the data allowing scientists to create a 3D image of the planet’s innards. Its radio communication system is also transmitting exact information on Mars’ rotation and wobble to Earth. The mission’s findings may give more information on how the solar system’s rocky interior planets developed.

What’s the status of the InSight mission?

Well…

InSight has been operating on Mars for three years and 140 days, and it has encountered several difficulties. The mission’s heat probe, or Mole, was supposed to be a big component of it, but NASA had to scrap it after two years of futile digging attempts.

Excessive dust had settled on the solar panels recently, jeopardizing the entire project. On the plus side, it appears that power levels have leveled off. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly until at least December 2022, when the probe is scheduled to be retired.

InSight is NASA’s first project to investigate the interior of Mars in detail, including its crust, mantle, and core. InSight has measured hundreds of “Marsquakes,” studied mysterious magnetic pulses, and provided us with incredible views like this one, thanks to its seismometer and other scientific instruments.

What we’re learning from InSight will not only reveal how planets like Mars first formed, but it will also help us understand the Red Planet’s patterns as we prepare for humans to explore Mars on future NASA missions.

Influencers Have Slammed the Invite-only Revolve Festival at Coachella as a Failure.

Revolve’s annual festival is one of the most exclusive Coachella events for influencers. But some are comparing this year’s party to Fyre Fest after transportation issues left many people waiting for hours in the sun without water.

Clothing brand Revolve, the purveyor of influencer looks and music festival fashion, launched the invite-only party in 2015. Like Coachella, this year’s festival is the first live event since 2019 after a two-year hiatus during the coronavirus pandemic.

The event this year was held at the Merv Griffin Estate in La Quinta, California, just five minutes from the Coachella festival grounds.

Free drinks crafted with Kendall Jenner’s tequila brand, free cuisine from Erewhon, free shopping experiences at sponsored “gifting suites,” and performances by Post Malone, Jack Harlow, and Willow Smith were all part of the festivities. It also included great photo opportunities and a Venmo-sponsored pink carnival swing ride.

However, some of the invited influencers compared the “VIP” party to ill-planned events like Fyre Festival and TanaCon, which were hosted by YouTubers.

The only way to get into Revolve Festival was to take one of the offered shuttles from an empty parking lot approximately a mile and a half away from the Merv Griffin Estate.

Influencers grumbled about the transportation in TikTok videos and Instagram stories over the weekend, saying it was unorganized and ill-equipped for large crowds. Some claimed they waited in the blazing sun for hours without food or water.

She stated that “quite few” buses were in rotation, and that VIP line guests were picked up more frequently than general admission line attendees.

When she got at the queue on Saturday, she estimated that there were at least 1,000 individuals in the crowd. ““Individuals from different lines began leaping gates, hopping into the road in front of vehicles, and forcing each other out of the way to get on one of the buses” when at least three buses drove by people waiting in the general admittance pool to pick up VIP invitees.

“As the situation intensified, my companion and I decided to simply go,” Bishop continued. “A security guard ran to obtain water since a girl was on the verge of passing out.”

Security was haphazard, according to Bishop, and “no Revolve administration appeared to be anywhere near the turmoil.”

A new update for Nintendo Switch is now available, bringing the system up to version 14.1.1. While Nintendo has made some interesting upgrades in recent weeks, this one is about as little as they get, essentially improving the system’s stability.

The business hasn’t said exactly what’s changed, but it’s safe to assume that if anything big has changed on the console, fans will find out immediately. The following are the complete patch notes from Nintendo’s official website:

That’s pretty boring in the broad scheme of things, but maybe these tweaks help improve the console and keep things operating smoothly! Since its release more than five years ago, the Nintendo Switch has been a huge success, selling millions of units globally and generating substantial software sales.

The Switch’s success has sparked a surge in franchise interest not seen on prior systems. This year is shaping up to be even better for the platform, with highly anticipated titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3, and Bayonetta 3 on the way. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was supposed to be out this year, but it was reportedly postponed until early 2023.

The Nintendo Switch console gained a long-requested feature earlier this year: the ability to arrange games by folder. That feature, which allows gamers to make their home screens a little more orderly, was added after fans pleaded for it for years.

Other improvements that fans would want to see include the opportunity to download other themes in addition to the ones that are now available. Themes were major popular on the Nintendo 3DS, so fans were expected to see them on the Switch as well. For the time being, Nintendo Switch owners will have to wait!

Nintendo has just started distributing firmware version 14.1.1, so it’s time to update your Switch once more.

The patch notes are brief because this is a minor update. “General system stability upgrades to enhance the user’s experience,” Nintendo merely says. The Big N, as is customary, avoided getting into specifics.

The 14.1.1 update for Switch comes after the release of version 14.1.0 earlier this month. New “Platinum Points Notification Settings” were added to that one, allowing users to be notified about unclaimed points in the My Nintendo rewards program.

Version 14.0.0, released in March, was the most recent significant firmware upgrade for Switch. Groups, Nintendo’s answer to folders, were added as a result of that one.
